1. Low to ground.
2. Long in body and short of leg.
3. Robust muscular development.
4. The skin is elastic and pliable without excessive wrinkling.
5. Appearing neither crippled, awkward, nor cramped in his capacity for movement.
6. Well-balanced with bold and confident head carriage.
7. Intelligent, alert facial expression. Hunting spirit, good nose, loud tongue.
8. Distinctive build makes him well-suited for below-ground work.
9. And for beating the bush. His keen nose gives him an advantage for trailing.
10. Note: Inasmuch as the Dachshund is a hunting dog, scars from honorable wounds shall not be considered a fault.
