This one was from The Great All-American Wooden Toy Book by Norm Marshall which provides scaled drawings, cut list and notes on how to make parts. Tyler did some sanding and some drilling but this was basically my Kid Project. Even got to use my little Uni-Mat to turn the smoke stack caps and the LN beading tool for some small trim under the edge of the upper deck.
(Too bad redwood is so soft. The hull of this thing is a piece or redwood fencing. Great grain that pops with a coat of penetrating oil. With a coat or two of garnet shellac it could look like rosewood.)
Hmmm - almost every wooden toy in this book require wheels - a lathe - I NEED a lathe!
Here's Tyler and his paddle wheeler and that's not a rat abandoning a sinking ship but a dwarf hamster checking things out.
