Chas is pretty good at tuning a miter joint that isn't excalty 90 degrees - which came in real handy when cutting the mitered corners in the Peruvian walnut front and back face frames, as well as mitering the corners for the walnut box that frames the "hole" in the top of the table.
The "face frame" to ply torsion boxes glue up was a bit fun - and used up most of my clamps - 21 Bessy and Gross Stabile ones plus a few others. Had to get a little creative clamping acrossed the length of the top. NOW do you see why you can never have too many clamps?.
Clamps off it was time to scrape glue squeeze out and sand things flush.
The it was applying Watco Dark Walnut stain, the second coat on the ply.
Applying stain is quick and easy. Wiping off what the wood doesn't absorb is neither quick - or easy. Most of a roll of paper towels got off almost all the excess stain. Getting out the "sparklies" in the open grained walnut will go on for the next few days Then I'll use some Compliant Systems grain filler, do some light sanding and apply another coat of stain.
The finish will be Compliant Systems waterborne poly - applied with an HVLP system
